From practice: talent development at Evoli

Everyone has talents. People who are used to their talents are happier, more effective and more productive. In the process, the chances of absenteeism and turnover are reduced. So how do you develop that talent? Below you can read an example from our practice.

A challenging assignment

From the organization, a manager was given the task, “Our organization is changing and therefore the department, about 50 people, needs to work more efficiently so that we can maintain our competitiveness. We think it is a nice challenge for you”.

Resistance in the workplace

He began this job in good spirits. In the back of his mind, he had six months in mind to get this change done. Reality proved more unruly. He quickly encountered a lot of resistance on the shop floor and the change was not getting off the ground. There was grumbling, motivation decreased and he felt he had insufficient connection with his employees. Questions soon arose in his mind such as: is it me? What am I not doing right? Where am I going wrong? What can I do differently?

In his leadership development with Evoli, this manager first gained insight into his own work style, leadership style and communication style. And his strong and weaker competencies became clear to him. What turned out: his strongest competency was also his biggest pitfall! How about that?

Insight

What transpired: his pace, both in thought and action, was high. This was experienced as impeding by the employees; he went too fast, they lost him. Because of his fast pace, he also had too little time to really stop.

From now on, I give “sincere” compliments and we dwell on what is going well.

As he put it himself:

I didn’t take time to think innovatively and didn’t shift gears. I learned to listen more to my employees. Giving trust and the way we communicate is also very important. From now on, I give “sincere” compliments and we dwell on what goes well. And efficiency in the department? That’s going in the right direction and motivation has increased!”

A talent development program with Evoli provides you with insights into your strong and weaker competencies that can be applied in your own work environment. This is always tailor-made. The focus is: How do you make sure that your talents come to their full potential?
